The FXFI indicates pure currency expectations of institutional investors as evidenced by their actions in the FX markets. Since a majority of FX transactions are related to operational needs, i.e. funding a purchase or converting sales of security back to base currency, the transaction set needs to be altered to expose only those transactions that expose pure currency expectations, i.e. hedge transactions.
